I know I am replying to an old post. But we do everything with our SSHs. Walk, run, gallop, canter, jump, drive, drag things, swim, rock climb, pull sleds, slide down hills and anything else we can think of. And yes, they still gait. They are a very versatile and willing breed. So much fun! Great looking SSH.

@highridgerider LOL, sorry, my mother uses my youtube account to browse videos. We were forbidden as kids from riding her Midnight Sun grandson because we kept "running him." FWIW, I'm way impressed with Joker, I had no idea what she took umbrage with when I checked my email and saw the responses

You don't have a clue. Gaited horses can walk, GAIT, canter, gallup and run. I looked carefully and watched some decent neck reining and some two handed fingertip reining. Did you notice his cues to setup the gait? Didn't think so. Makes me wonder if you've ever ridden a horse, let alone a gaited horse. I too have a Spotted Saddle Horse in Arizona.

Wow, These posters are so full of crap. I watched carefully and saw a walk, gait and canter. Gaited horses can walk, GAIT, canter, gallup and run guys! Also saw neck reining and some real gentle two handed fingertip reining. The gentle double tap with the reins on the horses butt was just fine.
I have a Sorrel and White Spotted Saddle Horse mare in Arizona. Where are you riding in this video?
I liked how your horse was kicking up a dust trail like a ATV. (SMILE)

if you like the ride ride on..be happy!!

they will tend not to gait them if you canter or trot a walking horse
what a shame! Why do you own a gaited horse if you want to be a "cowboy" and gallop everywhere? Your riding skills are horrible, use the reins to smack your horse less and whip your own butt with them. The way you yank his head, the tight reins, pulling his mouth open, shows what a poor rider you are. I would have been embarrassed to post this video. Only a forgiving kind breed of horse like this, would tolerate your poor riding skills and misbehavior.

@firstsquid: Your post reads like that of an elitist moron. Why not buy a horse, work with it for a few years, and then post some video and title it "This is how you should ride your horse, highridgerider". You couldn't be embarrassed to post a video like this.. because you don't post videos! I'm going to assume that you are an 11 year old girl, so I won't get too nasty and follow suit with a disrespectful diatribe. You may want to rethink barfing out everything that comes into your head.

I don't know where to start. Did you intend to write "you don't canter (a gaited horse) SSHHEESH!" ? If that is what you meant, think about this; I ask so much of this horse... if he needs to trot, I let him trot, if he needs to canter, I let him canter, if he needs to gallop, I let him gallop. BTW... I have a quarter horse; but she's gaited too. :-)
