This 1960 promotional film for the Chevy Corvair touts the Corvair as a masterpiece of design and engineering, with excellent handling. Furhter, it's presented as a kind of all-terrain vehicle, going over grassy hills, up sandy embankments, through heavy brush, across fields of mud, down a river, and the like. "Using this stream for its highway, the Corvair actually followed along like this for 20 miles, and not once did its reliable Turbo-air engine falter." And then we hear how safe the Corvair is in car crashes: "The Corvair took the punishment and asked for more!"

This car, of course, would later be the subject of the book "Unsafe at Any Speed" by Ralph Nader.

  • god its not a car its an all terrain vehical!

  • Because he insisted on telling us what to drive and what not to drive. The Corvair does have its limitations. What car doesn't? But with careful driving, any car can provide you with enjoyment reliability and safety. I think Ralph Nader is an idiot who doesn't deserve to be President of the USA.

Thank you for the video. That was awesome!

  • Nadar is a dork... the Corvair was no more unsafe then the praised VW Bug... the only difference was he couldn't attack the Bug...

also it's a bit shameful that this thing is more capable offroad then modurn CUVs and some SUVs :|

  • it was a scapegoat for Nader's cause to increase safety in the auto industry. Corvair wasnt the only car that was scrutinized but it did take the limelight unfortunately and even though the design & handling were ultimately vindicated sales never recovered. too bad too, nice design, I like the 2nd Gen. 500 & Monza coupes myself !

  • I dunno what people are talkin' about sayin' it's a bad car, That thing is built like a brick shithouse. i want one.

  • chuck norris drives a corvair

  • My friend had a corvair & it ran like a piece of shit. Nader was right ! Like it or not.

  • @racaroc You tell em' bro. Nader was no ( no pun ) dummy !

  • Wow! who needs a 4wd when you have the Corvair!

  • Its doin sky hill lol.

  • The Corvair was a good car and still probably would be.

  • Nader was right about seatbelts, but he was wrong about the Corvair. Has he ever apologized for lying about this car?
