Eric Johnson and his supporters will discuss his first semester at Paine College and his efforts to complete his undergraduate education. Pastor Derrick Rice and the Congregation of Sankofa United Church of Christ spearheaded a nation-wide fundraising effort that led to Eric's release in December of 2009. Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis of the Davis Bozeman Law Firm represented Eric pro bono and was successful in having all charges against Eric dismissed. Pastor Rice and Attorney Davis continue to support Eric by raising funds to supplement the partial scholarship Paine College awarded. Eric was accepted at Paine College after charges stemming from the shooting of a young mother, Nikki Neeley, were dismissed by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office. The perpetrators of the crime recently pled guilty and were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences. Eric, who enrolled in Paine in the fall earned 15 credits hours and achieved a 3.26 grade point average. "The Davis Bozeman Law Firm is a community based firm that takes pride in helping young people like Eric, have a bright future" says Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis. "Our church is proud of our commitment to plant this seed of hope in and for Eric. We pray and fully expect that, through Eric, this seed will grow into hope and assistance for the countless other 'Eric Johnsons' that will need the support of church communities like Sankofa UCC." Beamed Pastor Derrick Rice of Sankofa United Church of Christ
