L'inconnu de Limoise

This was the tune of the month (November 2009) that was voted in on Melodeon.net. I have decided to learn it by acquiring the sheet music (score) online and then printing it out. I then studied the suggested video of a man playing this tune. There's some slight differences in the tune on the video to the written copy of the music, so I changed them to sound like the video. After having transposed it to a more readable key for me and then doing my best to study the exact bass patterns, I went about rehearsing it over and over to replicate the style. This is the end result.
I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this fabulous French Mazurka.

Key of D and Bm.

  • Hi Hector nice playing. Perhaps you can give advice re your style of bass playing. Previously and still I played an English concertina, and before that a piano accordion. Now I have a Hohner Club IIb Victoria and I find it hard to get away from the oomp par par style. With only 8 bass buttons I can not apply the better accordion style either.

I note from listening to your playing you have a very different style- Can you explain. cheers Hanz

  • Hello Hanz. I find it difficult to explain my bass. Basically, I do little bass runs ie, CDE then F. Other times I will cut out the 'pah' and leave a crotchet rest or hold the bass (oomp'\) for a couple of beats or the whole bar. Sometimes I will play the chord part of the bass for a few bars. When I go from a C bass up to a G, i will pop in an E bass not which is a part Em but I will just sound the bass button on the lead up to the G. This is all in reference to a CG accordion.

  • Hector This is a beautiful tune and I loved it so much as you played it slightly differently again since I last heard it by CliveWilliams. You guys are great.

1000**** That is a difficult rythum to get

I never knew it existed until I heard Clive. its a 5/3/4 or something like that. Any ways Great Job. Cheers Mate.

    Greetings from Canada!

  • Love it! Great style, great clip. Inspired me to take a crack at this one myself.

  • Very charming, Hec. You catch the hypnotic rhythm perfectly, without hurrying. So well played.

  • Hector,

Please, you don't have to write back but what a beautiful interpretation!. I just like to listen to this one over and over again. It's kinda like a drug! ;-)

Also love your "Plaisir D'Amour" duet. (but you know this already... ;-)
