During the early hours of March 7th 2010 the North Norfolk Railway was finally reconnected to the national rail network. By midday a sizable crowd of spectators had gathered at the level crossing as rumours spread that a Test Train was expected. The DRS Class 37 (amid much hooting, cheering, waving and applause) slowly but surely made its way across station road to arrive at Sheringham's North Norfolk Railway. For all those who worked tirelessly throughout to ensure the success of this hugely ambitious project it was an extremely proud and emotional day. Congratulations and a big big thank you to you all... Mission Accomplished...March 7th 2010

  • HAHA excellent stuff complete at last, great to see. Note peter owen tells me that you wanted some HD camera crew for cromwells arrival this thursday so if necessary I'd be happy to help but i shall be there myself but if I cant get a good spot I'll go to a lineside location instead of at the crossing please let me know,

    regards, phil

  • Hi Phil Thanks, We have crew covering Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt and some lineside. However we are still looking for skillfully-shot line side HD footage

    Ill message you!

    Regards Peter.

  • Good to see. Let us be thankful that no-one saw fit to build on the trackbed while the NNR was isolated.

Do you just use the camera's own microphone when you film?

  • Many thanks; Yes onboard mic with Rycote windshield.

  • Congratulations on this superb conclusion to your series of videos Peter, and what a marvellous day to celebrate this historic event. The cab ride at the end was very appropriate and fitting....well done in all respects...5* Bob

  • Thank you Bob. Yes a day of glorious sunshine ordered especially to match the bright livery of 37194.... 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' brings the first passenger train over the crossing on the 11th March. A repeat of Sundays weather would be great. :o)

  • nice job nice. i being touch by heart.

  • Once again Peter, an excellent video. I unfortunately could not make it to Sheringham to see this important moment in the History of the NNR, but seeing your video makes me feel as though I was there. Thanks once again.

  • Excellent video, of an excellent achivement.

  • Thanks for the video coverage. A very different scene to the one in December 1966 when a group of no more than six or seven gathered on Sheringham station in the rain to see the final service train off. That was a dismal night and the following Monday we had our first taste of BR's new "basic" railway service.

Now the link is back is it too much to hope that a way might be found for service trains to once again use the "proper" station one day?

  • Excellent! :D

  • REALLY GOOD - enjoyed it all - well done to Steven Ashling and the team at the NNR

  • Fantastic to see, Well done to you all and I look forward to posting a video of the Wensleydale ECML link up one day. A great effort and a cracking vid.
