Chinese painting scroll A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains 千里江山圖 represented in Olympics Opening Ceremony. Wang Ximeng (c.1096-c.1119), Song Dynasty artist, a teenage prodigy who painted this Thousand Miles of Landscape at age 18, a 51.5 x 1191.5 cm scroll, now kept in Palace Museum, Beijing. A masterpiece of Chinese Cavalier Perspectives, also called Multi-Point Perspectives, or Multi-Vanishing Point Perspectives are used in long scrolls of landscape painting.

  • They say Wang Ximeng would not be famous and probably would be forgotten if the Emperor did not promote his painting. This is probably the only work he left us today.

  • Such a rare genius!

  • Wang Ximeng was a child prodigy who received painting instructions from the Emperor of Sung dynasty.

  • both of these works of art are beyond awesome. Thank you.
