These taste very much like granola bars

3 cups quick cooking oats
1/2 cup brown sugar packed
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup honey or corn syrup
1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter

In a medium bowl, combine oats, sugar, butter and honey (or corn syrup). Microwave on high for 4 1/2 minutes or until bubbly, stopping to stir 2 times. LIGHTLY spread in an 8x8 baking dish (greased). Cool slightly. In a small bowl combine chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave on high for 1-1 1/2 minutes or until chips are melted. Stir and spread over the oatmeal base. Cut into squares while still warm.

These would be much better if one added chopped almonds and/or raisins to the oatmeal base. I would also recommend the honey instead of the corn syrup.

DO NOT pack the mix into the pan, it will make them hard and too chewy.
Don't keep them in the fridge.

  • umm what is the difference between packing it in the pan and not packing it in the pan ?

  • @glitteryglitz12 It will be easier to eat if it is packed, they will stay in a nice square form when cut. If it goes in loose, it may be hard to cut into squares that will stay that way when picked up.

Side note---there is no reason to put "umm" before a question. Your question was well worded and spelled correctly on it's own. :)

  • Can we use instant oatmeal instead of regular oats? Is there a difference?

  • @OreoDucky There is a difference between the two, but it won't matter for this recipe, use either/or.

  • do you have to add the chocolate sauce cause i dont eat chocolate

  • @321677841 I suppose you could leave that out, but in my opinion it wouldn't be very good

  • @sysman76 It's a dessert, if you are looking for health food go eat a salad

  • @KianasKitchen The base turns out to be a little too hard and chewy if you pack it a lot into the pan
