Livestock farmer Terry Den Besten lost goats to the wild coyotes, which were entering the pens at night and finding their helpless prey, but when a coyote killed his family's pet dog in the back yard, just feet from his wife, Besten knew he had to act. He sought permission to hunt the animals on his land from the local police department and, with the help of fellow hunters, he had started to seek out the coyotes and kill them. Besten knows that the animals are only doing what is natural, seeking food for themselves and their young, but the attacks on his animals and reports of the animals roaming near the local schoolyards have forced him to act. Besten says the state needs to formulate a plan to deal with these wild animals who have lost their hunting land to development.

  • coyotes have gotten into our barn at night and killed and eaten a calf, only way to deal with them is to control the population.

  • Coyotes are Incredible and adaptable animals. And normally I do not advocate just killing stuff for no reason. But the responsible thing to do is manage these animals and not encourage or entice them to the point they are in our yards, schools towns etc. I am afraid that is were it will end. So by all means give these animals a reason to fear us they should. They are predators and they will go as far as they can until (managed).

  • In Michigan I have seen the Coyote Population Grow over the Past 5 Years. They went from Noise off in the Distance to running around in my back yard. I will not hesitate to shot them. Only because I see them being far more an issue in the coming years. They have no Natural preditors in my area and an abundance of food. I've already seen them checking out my kids, playing in the back yard. No lie. That's another story. I'd like to see the MI DNR Coyote population studies & projections for 10 Year

  • Hey don't need to brag and kill the coyotas they were hungry looking for the food....use your head and put the animals in the barn at night time..dork!!

  • livestock guarding dogs are the BEST and also llams and donkey

  • I am sorry that you live in an area with stupid laws regarding problem wildlife. My advice: shoot, shovel, and shut up.

  • Wish I lived next door. Your coyote problem would cease to exist.
