Just got my 16x2 LCD from nkcelectronics. Commanding the HD44780 chipset directly from Arduino (no library here). Demonstration here is using analogRead of a joystick to shift the display in real time.

  • My blue lcd behaves quite erratically. It starts up grey on blue, but on applying some negative bias on VEE, it turns white. Does this happen to you?

    Yup. If I'm remembering correctly, you can adjust the bias all the way to a sort of reversed letter effect. I actually had a lot of trouble getting the white-on-blue to be nice and clear; the black-on-green is easier to work with.
