It is unfortunate, both to the Art world and to his own legacy that he was compelled to achieve this status through deception. It makes me think of the tremendous responsibility held by critics. By their words, they either lift artists to great heights or leave them in oblivion. It makes me wonder about Vermeer and Van Gogh, Master painters who were shunned by the critics of their day. If they had fallen to despair and quit painting, our world would have been robbed of their creative genius.
