Reading the comments, it's clear that people simply haven't driven a PDK-equipped 911.
It's NOTHING like a "normal" automatic. You can hold it in any gear and adjust your line on the throttle predictably just like the manual.
I know this because I have a 2009 C4S and test drove both before deciding on the smoother, faster shifting, faster accelerating (even before you switch on the PDK-only launch control), , more fuel-efficient, PDK :-p
