An interesting note is that the name Gene Chandler is a combination of the names "Eugene Dixon" and session guitarist -and member of the Sheppards- "Kermit Chandler" from "Duke of Earl"
Earl Edwards, an original member of the Dukays, helped write and originally conceived Duke of Earl from his personal point of view, so one could say that he was the original 'Duke of Earl' In any case, Eugene Dixon became Gene Chandler
and he alone is credited on the record, the DuKays sadly faded away.

Talk about the impact of a song - Gene Chandler's next three releases after "Duke of Earl" were attributed to the name "The Duke of Earl" - also, there was a group called The Pearlettes who released "Duchess of Earl" -
OMG. Thank you mucho, I have looked for this song. I think that this is his best work. Great tune, great hook. Bless you PJDooWop.
