This is our URCAD performance on April 25, 2007.
Abstract:
Our multi-media performance is based on a visual artwork by Mariko Mori, entitled Miracle, a collection of eight circular photographs of micro- and macro-organisms. Each is placed on an iridescent piece of glass in a circular room. In the middle of the room is a suspended strand of crystals, which hovers above a circle of rock salt. The dancers become the "crystals" through costuming with choreography to the music of Arthur Foote's A Night Piece. A Night Piece was recorded with a small chamber group with solo flute and was mixed into surround sound. The "rock salt and crystals" were made from foam, which forms a ring around the dancers. The audience sits along the circumference of the rock salt formation surrounding the dancers. After the performance, we asked our audience members to fill out a questionnaire to compare our performance to Mori's Miracle.
