IN BAMBARA W/ ENGLISH SUBTITLES

12 years before Yeelen (Brightness), Cissé broke ground in his homeland of Mali by making the first-ever feature film in his native language, Bambara, finding controversy with a focus on sexual violence and youths torn between traditional life and the codes of the city. (1975)

  • @zaynabouc I haven't seen Sunjata Keita yet, but I've uploaded another rare classic Bambara film, Souleymane Cissé's Baara (Work) on my other channel- just search "Baara". If you want to see Finyé (The Wind), it's also on here, but with only French subs.

  • Me neither, as far as the Bambara goes, except for Cissé's Yeelen. I'll have to see Finyé soon. I loved Den muso, hope you enjoy it. :) It's not an especially happy story, but it is a beautiful film, expressing a strong sense of the place (Bamako).

  • Thanks for your comment. You're sharing- or eventually going to share- such a wealth of rare films, it's nice to hear there are still a few you're unaware of!!
