Sixty-six years ago the U.S. was attacked by Japan. We then entered into the 2 year old war on December 8th, 1941. Even though it was many years ago, we must never forget the people who scarificed in the name of the United States.

There are many issues that surround the attack. If you research, make sure to read credible, reliable sources. Be leary of EVERYTHING on the internet. Howard Zinn is one among many respected historians.

Interesting factoid:
Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto, who had planned the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, had studied at Harvard University and knew well the temperament and capabilities of the American people. He had warned others in the Japanese government that for the Pearl Harbor attack to succeed, it must be a crushing blow.

  • I agree. I keep certain books accessable to students. I keep them on my desk. There are a few that are books filled with photos from different eras. They love them. Sometimes the kids are so alien after all :0)

  • I went to DC a bunch of years ago too and got to see the Vietnam memorial. It was very awe inspiring. Hmm. I don't know if I took a digital camera on that trip. I'll have to check and see. My niece recently went for a school trip and she took some really incredible photos as well. It was kinda neat to see what a kid would consider interesting.

  • That would be awesome! Three years ago I was in DC for a conference and got to see the WWII Memorial there. It was very moving. The other memorials to vets were also. I am such a history geek. :0)

  • The memorial is interesting. I've only been there once (go figure). I went because it was free hahaha My friend was re-enlisting in the Army and he chose to re-enlist there. It is actually quite amazing. I believe they just added a new memorial to it this year, with these pole type things with each member who was killed in service's name on the poles. I need to get down there and film it for you all at some point.

  • Thanks Beth! It is something talking to people who were at any historical event. It gives me chills. My dad was from southern Italy. His town was bombed. When we would have thunder/lightening storms it would upset him. He was ages 8 - 15 when the war going on in Europe. When I get done swimming your way, we'll go to the memorial..

  • Excellent video! Thanks for sending it along. I know it takes me forever to get to things. My dad remembers seeing planes flying overhead that day. He was seven.

  • Thanks for watching Larry :0)

  • LOL.. well.. irony ya know...and you've through many Dec. 7ths...

    Thanks for watching...LOL..
