While advertising is the visible component of the corporate system, perhaps even more important and pervasive is its invisible partner, the public relations industry. This video illuminates this hidden sphere of our culture and examines the way in which the management of the public mind has become central to how our democracy is controlled by political and economic elites. Toxic Sludge Is Good For You illustrates how much of what we think of as independent, unbiased news and information has its origins in the boardrooms of the public relations companies.

PR critics include PR Watch founder John Stauber, cultural scholars Mark Crispin Miller and Stuart Ewen. Toxic Sludge Is Good For You tracks the development of the PR industry from early efforts to win popular American support for World War I to the role of crisis management in controlling the damage to corporate image. The video analyzes the tools public relations professionals use to shift our perceptions including a look at the coordinated PR campaign to slip genetically engineered produce past public scrutiny.

Toxic Sludge Is Good For You urges viewers to question the experts and follow the money back to the public relations industry to challenge its hold on democracy.

  • I think you missed the point. Toxic sludge is NOT cow manure. It's toxic waste from human waste to include chemicals from bathroom cleaners to run-off from industry to low-grade radioactive waste.

  • So many people arguing over toxic sludge and the environment when this video's message has nothing to do with either. This entire video is about PR campaigns and the PR industry. The PR industry is not a democrat/republican industry. There is PR in everything. PR is a made up industry by people who sell an image to the masses and profit off of others willingness to persuade, influence, and control perception of themselves or a product.

  • SEWAGE SLUDGE will always be toxic because tap water contains small amounts of heavy metals and organic particles are like magnets for these metals so when large amounts of water come in contact with our good poo, the result is inevitable ... it is an intrinsic problem with sewers and will be there even if we don't add industrial chemicals and waste to the system !

  • This video could be fantastic if it had a much shorter and less spook-music in the beginning AND BETTER QUALITY video PLEASE FIX !

  • @4lph4numeric no need to break anything down. I am well aware of your statement. Journalism is no different, in fact the two go hand-in-hand on many things. Just look up "professional journalism". In many cases, PR companies provide news outlets with pre-packaged, fully produced segments to air on television/radio. It is way cheaper and easier for a news outlet to take the already made stories and run them as news. It's a nasty and vicious cycle. Journalism, or whats left of it, is a damn shame.

  • @llmatticusll Dunno how to break it to you man but nowadays, so is journalism.

  • @tostrong4you I agree with your take...

  • What I find odd about this video is that they dont go deeper into what kind of

"sludge" they use and what exactly is bad in it.

Instead this video quickly changes the topic to politicians and war.

This video is crap without further detail about the sludge.

  • ooooh its a complex conspiracy, not just a few assholes trying to make money! everyone, quick, build a bunker and hide from the nuclear fallout!!!

    lol dumbass

  • so, having regulations in place to stop selfish and dangerous individuals from causing harm and hardship to other people/organisms is bad, because every person, despite their intentions, should be able to do what ever they want, how ever they want and when ever they want?

you fit into one of the many groups of naive, paranoid kooks...

do you believe in ghosts, alien abductions, psychics, homeopathy, chakras, etc as well?
