  • A bit sloppy sounding. He can't maintain cohesive dynamics, and he slows down as if he's almost lost his way @ :38 seconds, plus he slows down the tempo for no apparent reason near the end (approx. 1:37 on). M. P. is a very good pianist, but his playing of this piece doesn't come close to Maurizio Pollini's.

  • A unique interpretation, thoroughly poetic. Perahia does not thrash about or turn this noble composition into a mere race for speed. Gorgeous sonority, and a beautifully realized conception.

  • This is my favorite version of this etude I've ever heard!!

  • He is playing in Dublin next week! I hope to get to see him.

  • @geuros However, Backhaus's recordings are awesome too, but they're from 1928 and they are even maybe a little bit faster, than Perahias.

  • Firstly I had listened to that piece played by Perahia on the czech radio and the best CZECH pianist of all ages Ivan Moravec said that these recordings of Chopin etudes are propably the best which were ever recorded. About this recording he said: "This is my very most favourite recording of that etude" - and I must agree with him, Perahia is awesome, amazing, gorgeous, brilliant... Simply the BEST!
