  • It's great that the students below are chiming in with their opinion! I encourage all of you to attend a Student Senate meeting and contribute your thoughts so that we all can become more informed about the issues affecting our University. Monday Nights @ 6 PM - Council Fire room

  • Goodness gracious. It seems people don't know how funding works here at all. I'll see if we can't create a video response to clear some of the air.

  • While I'm not on board with the new buildings, think about this, if you are an in state student attending a public university, most of your fees are paid by the state. So while they claim that the students are paying for this building, In reality, in state students are paying out of pocket considerably less. That said, as a 5th year I am not happy that some of my classes being cut next semester since my program is small With all the cuts, I will be here a total of 6 Years by the time I graduate.

  • thisguyoverhere1, think about what you're implying! Half of the 100 million project was funded by student fees? Consider this: Eau Claire has 10,346 undergrad students and 543 graduate students. If you took 50 million and divided it by 10,889 (10,346 + 543), it would amount to $4591.79 per student. That's more than a semester of tuition. I don't think I'll be paying anywhere near that figure in higher fees. I don't doubt our fees are being raised, but you are exaggerating to the extreme.

  • I know I don't understand what all is going on, but I don't see how we can't stop building projects that we haven't started. Yes a large part of the new Davies center was donated money, but a lot came from student tuition too. As a student, I say, if I'm paying this much money, I want class options, not 'nice buildings'. There is nothing wrong with the building here. (And from someone living in Horan, that says something.) I came with the buildings just the way they are.

  • Yeah, that's genius: cut class options so virtually no one can get the credits they need to graduate in four years. I agree with the comment below, I'm not thrilled that student money is being used for the new buildings. We don't need a fancy new student center. I'd rather see it go to something actually useful that serves current students, such as the student health center, instead of new buildings that serve as selling points for the 'state's most beautiful campus' for future students.

  • @thisguyoverhere1 Well of course we that new Davies center, my education is going to be markedly improved by this new building. To imply that this building will not improve the education that is provided is what I would call libel. Clearly you do not understand if you do not have new buildings you can not attract new people to come to your university. The administration is going to do everything in their power including misrepresenting facts to get those new buildings and new students.

  • At least close to half of the $100 million dollar project for the three buildings is being funded through fees paid by students. Bottom-line: students pay more, campus gets "prettier", funds for ACTUAL CLASSES and thus EDUCATION goes down (due to something unrelated to the construction itself, but still demanding of a response). I'm not too rosy about student-paid new buildings on a flood plain. Whose bright idea was it to build campus on ground so low, right next to the river? Short-sighted.
