The spin gear teeth have seen better days, need a new spin gear or gearbox.

your spin gear did not disengage properly so when the agitator rod goes clockwise the tub turns ...... so either a new spin gear is need i sure some grease is needed dont know what else though these machines are so cheap i would buy a new one

needs a gearcase :)

these whirlpool "direct drive" machines have a plastic gear in the gearcase that engages when it is in spin, if overloaded, the teeth on the gear gets shaved off, everytime it hits the flat part, u hear the "clunk" noise and the tub jerks back. the same thing happend to my machine.

your washer has a bad spin gear in the transmission, ther part is about 60-70 bucks
