@BloodShotNow Lots of people could make claims about who was the first to use distortion and it wouldn't have been invented as such, more likely just overdriven amps, but the first deliberate use of feedback in a recording is said to be by the Beatles "I Feel Fine" (1964).

@BloodShotNow No, Link Wray was the first to use distortion/overdrive. He poked holes in his speakers to get that sound in 1958. The stones copied him later before they switched to Boogie. Noone can get distortion like that out of a period Fender rig, not even cranked...unless it's broken!
