Musharraf defends emergency rule - 03 Nov 07

In a pre-recorded, televised address Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's president, defended his decision to declare emergency rule. Towards the end of his speech, Musharraf appealed to his international audience in English.

@Shammwow In our part of the world, democratic frame of mind does not exist, that's why we perform better under dictatorships. Serving under a dictator doesn't make anyone feel like a slave, except fruitcakes like Sham-wow. Musharraf strengthened the institutions, Supreme Court was at liberty, State Bank was autonomous and HEC was autonomous too. Private sector was given special privileges. Musharraf Vs. Zardari. Have a vote. Only some lunatic like Sham-wow would vote for democrats like Zardari.

Did you forget that Saddam Hussain was a dictator too? What became of Iraq when democracy was restored? Same will be the fate of Egypt and other arab states enjoying the illusion of revolution and democracy. Pro-american Governments shall be installed there, same as one governing Pakistan right now. Listen to this thickly accented clown dictator. Just like all dictators in the Middle East, he says if he is removed, there will be chaos and instability. Sounds just like that thief Mubarak who ran off with 50 billion dollars. @Shammwow Uneducated people like Shammwow hardly understand what statistics actually mean. At Macro-level, you cannot conduct figure-fudging because international agencies like IMF and WorldBank usually act as watch-dogs in that case. Pak was doing great during Musharraf's era. Don't look at statistics, go out and see for yourself the infrastructure developed, the mega corporates that invested in Pakistan.
