This was the first year my nephew turkey hunted. The day before he video taped me taking a 25 lb. bird at my timber. This time it was his turn, behind his father's place. We captured some fantastic video of this bird fanning and drumming. He took the shot with the bird only 10 yds. away. I think he is hooked on turkey hunting now. Take a youth hunting and pass on this hunting tradition to our future!

  • Very nice shot! My son is 9 in a half and he wants to get into youth hunting ever since my husband started getting into the sport. Where do I start when it comes to finding out more info on youth hunting..like rules & regulations & field activities?

  • I'm not sure what state you are in, but the quick way is to do a search on the web for the Department of Natural Resources for the state you live in. Good luck!

  • i was just wondering. why do the young guy take up this little papernote after he shot the turkey?

  • You must purchase a turkey hunting tag to be able to legally shoot the turkey. The paper you speak of is actually a tag that is sticky on the back side of it. This is so you can wrap it around the turkey's leg to identify it as your turkey if the game warden stops you and checks to see if you are a legal hunter. The front side of the tag has printed information on it to identify that it is yours. You have to pay for the tag. This is A little over $20 in Iowa.

  • ty very much for your answear! it looks like you had alot of fun!!

  • I never had to worry about that. There are so many turkeys around my place. We take a bird every year and sometimes I will get another license and take another. It's just a box call, something easy for my nephew to scratch with. I guess if another guy thinks my calling isn't very good, maybe I won't have to worry about a hunter sneaking in and shooting. Sure works for the birds around my place though. LOL

  • Never tried to improve my calling. It's not necessary. Turkeys are dumb birds, they are just very cautious animals with great eye sight. I called one in one time, just fooling around with a rusty fence. LOL
