One of the most beautiful melodies on this planet is the Melanesian hymn "God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi", which was first made famous to the world in the soundtrack to the movie The Thin Red Line and, more recently, featured in the new advert for Diner's Club.

Be it hummed like a lullaby or sung in full celebration, there is nothing quite like this melody. Instantly, its innocence draws one to another time; a time before now; a time frozen still.

What you hear then in this video is the very first version of our song "Memories of Ancient Earth", which samples this timeless traditional hymn. No infringement is intended, rather to promote this song even further. The goal was to capture the spirit of ancient meets modern, of sleek electronica soundscapes enveloping rapturous ethnic vocals.

This version hasn't been officially mixed or mastered yet, but is the direct, recorded-nearly-in-one-take demo made in July 2009 with an aim to expanding it eventually. But for now, please enjoy this pre-release version.

  • @zackpoll Thanks, that is a very constructive comment.

  • CY:REN is BULLSHIT. stop mixing and mashing music up to fit american pop music standards.

  • Really lovely piece, very soulful and love the arrangement.

  • Nice music, good job!

  • A stunning arrangement, enigmatic and deeply rooted, complementing rather than clashing with the original. The interlude is as uplifting as the 'hymn' itself – the original and this rendition evincing an equal reverence. On infinite loop, a contemplative listener would not tire of or be able to distinguish either. CY:REN delivers a world music more sympathetic to Melanesia’s soul than the colonialism that birthed Tok Pisin. Musicians again achieve that which the missionaries cannot ...

  • Love it!

  • Fantastic work. Great arrangement!
