Title: The Goddess and the Weaver
Lyrics by: Adrienne Piggott
Tune: original
Date: 1996
Source:
Recorded on: "Woman of the Earth," Spiral Dance (John Reynolds Studio, South Australia), 1996.
Subject: Goddess

Chorus: Arachnia weaves and she weaves so well
She weaves a passage where the Gods will fly
Athena laughs as she casts her spell
While she watches from her loom on high

Athena, Athena
Goddess-born lady, you're a jealous one
And Arachnia knows that you were watching her
Waiting for her work to be undone
Athena, have you set the quest
Will you take the weave and will you break the weft
Or will you let this lady spin her tapestry
Of a tale untold and then set her free?

Arachni, Arachnia
The Goddess Athena's got a quest for you
And you must weave a story of the Gods that rule
In all their mystery and you must tell it true
So Arachnia's woven the seven moons
She's spun the silver thread upon an applewood loom
And she's told the story of the Gods that rule
In all their mystery and yeah she's told it true

So Athena came to earth disguised as a crone
To gaze upon the tapestry this mortal women's sewn
And in and out the fabric that stretched across the loom
The sins and the secrets of the Gods were shown

Athena, Athena
Goddess-born lady, you're an angry one
And as you spin your spell around Arachnia
To shift her shape into a weaving one
And as Arachnia sits and weaves upon her web
She casts her mind back and she remembers when
She told the story of the Gods that rule
In all their mystery and she told it true

  • To all the Christians and Wiccans out there: right now, I'm in my bedroom praying to God for better luck in job hunting in our area and my boyfriend is performing a ritual to the goddess Fortuna for the same thing. We live together and we love each other and we feel that neither deity is upset by this. Stop all this bickering, live in harmony, and be blessed!

  • @FightTime78 ...Um, I think you are a little misinformed. You are 100% right about this song. It is a folk song about greek mythology, but it is also pagan. Being pagan simply means you are polytheistic. Polytheism is the belief of multiple deities also usually assembled into a pantheon of gods and goddesses, along with their own mythologies and rituals. :)

  • when looking at all the comments and i see so much hate from religion. respect anothers religion dont try to convert with hatred. i dont believe in gods i believe in science but im not going up to people saying shit about their religon. and i hate when some religious person says ill burn in hell so pray to god. we all have the right to have our own beliefs weither were wrong or not but representing your religion with such hatred only makes the religion look bad.

  • @OneWiccanHighPriest

It shoulf be the same but it is not beacuse there is conspiration behind!

  • @Girzlla89955 Greek, Roman, Christian, Norse, it is all the same: The One, The All, That which is Forever, and the Beginning - The Alpha and Omega (The Lord and Lady? hmmm....)

  • @WiccanAradia Hi Sweetie! Yes, I would go skyclad, too, as you well know that I am a traditional Wicca High Priest - there are just many things in Wicca practice which should never be changed :) And as far as the Spiral Dance goes, let us not forget its TRUE meaning: the symbolic representation of the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, or The Dance of Going and Returning, as is depicted at the Sowen festival each year.

    Blessed Be )0(

  • @MrRjmac You got the meaning of immortal wrong: it is not the physical body which is immortal, but the soul which travels in this vehicle we call a body - the spirit never dies, it is simply transformed to another level of being.

  • @arniebarb123 Unconditional love?? Doesn't that mean NO CONDITIONS?? There IS a condition, though: if we use our free will to walk a different Path than the one Jesus apparently set forth, than we are doomed to a fiery pit until we repent.

Sorry, my friend, that is NOT unconditional.

    Blessed Be )0(

  • @arniebarb123 Yes, believe it or not, we also have a Bible, and it actually teaches us how to worship our Deities - without fear of reprisal if we don't get something right :) Our Lord and Lady are truly benevolent beings, and would never threaten their children with a 'burning pit' if they chose to walk in another direction than Their's.

It seems a an ugly twist to give us a free will, then place an ultimatum on the usage of that free will - that's a loving God?

    Blessed Be )0(

  • @arniebarb123 May the Light and Love of the Lord and Lady shine upon the Path of True Enlightenment for you. I implore you: please be not afraid to open thine eyes to the greater mysteries within thine own soul, and realize that Jesus's teachings represented the merest fraction of all of the knowledge in the Universe. My own philosophy about the 'devil' is this: there is no devil but that which Man hath created, and exists therefore in his mind alone.

    Blessed Be )0(
