Here is the Salak...otherwise known as the Snake Fruit or Snakeskin Fruit. There are different varieties across southeast Asia. I prefer the Thailand/Cambodian varieties the best.

I was eating nothing but wild foods and drinking wild coconuts while staying here, so I look a little excited. WILD FOOD!

  • @crosal7 they're not durians :) sure look like durians eh?

  • hope you're not eating the durian seeds raw because they're toxic

  • I had these for the first time in my life in Indonesia while visiting my daughter who was serving in the Peace Corps there. I like them a great deal! This video is an excellent presentation of what they look like and how to eat them, but I'd like to add a couple things. First, the skin is stiff and it's possible to get small paper-cut like scratches from it if you aren't careful. Second, the flavor is something between an apple and a pear, but with a firmer texture. Very enjoyable!

  • So cool. Wish I could have some of those seeds sent here.
