Chile is among Latin America's most prosperous nations. Some analysts partially attribute the success to a group of economists from Chicago. Worldfocus special correspondent Edie Magnus traveled to Chile earlier this year to explore the ongoing legacy of the "Chicago Boys." http://worldfocus.org/blog/2009/12/09/the-legacy-of-the-chicago-boys-lives-on...

  • You wan't to be like America? You will end up like America where corporate + government are in the same bed (Fascism). Truth is, Chile's economy is weak and only rises when prices of commodities go up. Once they go down, Chile has a problem. Free market isn't free folks, it's only free for the corporate crooks, the chicago boys or the gangsters in wall street.

  • This video has a lot of bull shit, why can't these interviews ever just come right out and say the truth. The period of Pinochet and the Chicago Boys totally free economic ideology was actually the worst social and economic disaster ever to face Chile, during this time 1974-91 Chile GDP was the worst in Latin America it wasn't until more controlled economic reforms that go against Friedman and the Chicago Boys principles that marks the rise of Chile.

  • I guess there was no mass torture, wages didn't fall, unemployment didn't soar and income disparity didn't happen. I must have dreamt that up.

The imposition of radical neo-liberal policies without the consent of the public to test out University of Chicago theories was an amoral act of barbarism. The ends do not justify the brutal means.

What would Chile be like without the Sept 11, 1973 coup d'etat? Was it worth all the blood and torture? Ask the public, not the Chicago Boys.

  • @DystopianFuture2day Too bad Naomi Klein didn't write about "Mao's Shock Doctrine," and try and link it to Friedman, since Friedman advised the Chinese as well!

  • @frogeagle53 What evidence do you have? For example, Chile and Uruguay are among the most advanced countries in South America. And the Partido dos Trabalhadores of Brazil has had to eat its own nonsense on this issue, meeting Friedman halfway, or all the way on almost all issues, primarily, taxes, Oil companies, product markets, and starting businesses.

  • "The People" are not stupid. We understand that this economic theory only benefits the wealthy, while everyone else suffers. This theory is about profit only and in that sense it does work for the select few. Therefore this Friedman way of economics destroys people. I also truly believe that anyone that thinks that Shock Doctrine is bull, research more. Because I did and I found that her research is dead on and not based on speculation but historic facts.

  • @DystopianFuture2day

    Her leftist book is bullshit.

  • Read Naomi Klein's the Shock Doctrine. This video is bullshit.
