...love that old "88" piano with the missing front panel! I haven't seen anything like that since JoAnn Castle played one on the old Lawrence Welk Show. Every tune that F.F.+T ever did were genuine toe-tappers and "tuchus" twisters! Thanks for the post!

Bands of this kind are notoriously difficult to record. Guys are moving around, pointing in different directions, raising and lowering their volume, etc. The quality of these recordings, esp. coming from ca. 1951, is just astonishing.

'51, I was a 20 yr old in San Francisco; knew nothing about music. Several music students invited me to catch the Firehouse 5 playing on a Sun. night at the Hangover Club (the bluenoses made the radio ads call it the "Hanover Club". I grabbed my fake id and entered the club. The moment I heard them I knew I'd found my favorite kind of music...still love it.
