American Conservatory parlor guitar made by Lyon & Healy most likely between 1910-1920. Spruce top & brazilian rosewood sides and back. I just got it back from luthier Bob Gernandt (http://www.gernandt.com/ ) who performed a perfect neck reset. After a quick explanation I tacked on a few tunes to demonstrate how it sounds. They're all different styles or tunings:
Green, Green Rocky Road - Drop D tuning
Pay Day - Open D tuning
Blues in A - Standard tuning
Skip James style - Open Dminor tuning
Ragged and Dirty - w/finger picks, standard tuning
Buckets of Rain - Folky in Open D

I wish more folks would tour and demo their rare old guiars like Little Brother does at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRAaelbUFGw

  • Beautiful guitar, beautiful playing, beautiful tone. Simply...well...beautiful!

I have been looking for a travel guitar and just discovered parlour guitars, so I checked out youtube and here I am...

Love the first tune with the slides and bends what is it?

  • The first song I play is "Green, Green Rocky Road," but I think you might mean the second song, "Pay Day" which has more slides and bends. These are great guitars and, with patience, you can find deals on ebay.

  • Great to see you and hear it. I have one just like it only not cracked. It has been strung for all the years I've had it. It belonged to a great uncle who died in 1932. the neck was reset about twenty years ago and needs reset again. What kind of light strings do you have one it. I need to find someone to do another reset also. You play much better than I. Thanks for letting me know there is another one out there that is loved.

  • I'm glad to hear you have a great little parlor, to. I have a set of D'Addario extra light steel strings on it. Good luck on your neck reset.

  • is it steel strung?

was it build with gut strings in mind?

  • It IS strung with steel strings - extra lights. The luthier who reset the neck said steel would be okay, but he told me to "keep an eye on it." I really don't know for sure if the guitar was built with gut strings in mind.

  • I've got a question about your guitar's construction. Does your guitar have a scref to regulation of the neck? I'm going to buy a parlour guitar but ih hasn't got any regulation of neck. There are no strings and I am not sure what is the string's height over the 12th fret. That would be grateful if you write me some details of the cornstruction. What is the neck width? 1 3/4" or 1 11/16?

  • Awesome guitar! 100 years old?! That's pretty gnarly as well.

  • aaah you have to let me know what that third song was! the one right after "Pay Day." and the one after that too! heck.. just let us know what all of them are!! pleease!

  • Very nice playing. I'm going to learn what you played.

  • sweet!!!!

  • Don't like the sound. sound like a plastic guitar

  • Nice guitar and nice playing! I regret getting rid of mine... just like yours with Brazilian. If I recall, mine had no truss rod. Same? You must have super light strings on it to keep it safe from torsion issues. Do you know if these were originally designed for steel strings? Darn I wish I still had mine. It needed a neck reset. The sound of Brazilian is SOOOOO awesome! I love the size as well... great for playing on the couch.

  • Hi I have one of these for sale.... ebay no 270497087987

  • i will do you a swop for my parlor guitar as ace as it is thanks for vid.

    NICE PLAYING

  • I want it!!!! Gimme Gimme Gimme!!!!
