The Airdrop Trap requires too much effort to be effective. It's not worth the time, better spent on PTFO, and therefore, no good at all. It is, however, a brilliant trolling tool.

@LeonGehste If you want to catch people out with the trap package, you should throw the package down and pretend to guard it/capture it. If nobody is around, fire an unsilenced weapon. Soon enough, somebody will arrive on the scene and see you trying to retrieve the trap package. They'll then kill you and try to capture it for themselves (because they saw you try to capture it). I've tricked 3rd prestige players by doing this.
