The western canon is a crock of normative prejudiced white bullshit. It doesn't work anymore and it is fucking boring. Nobody gives a fuck about Tennyson or Baldwin or any other luminaries we're told to read. Who selects what's to be noteworthy for generations? Any canon that springs from Europe should be murked.
