A simple documentary that follows dugong hunters as they scour the ocean for precious dugong and marine turtles. This documentary explains the different social responsibilities involved in the killing of the dugong, and its preparation for consumption. An important aspect of this film is that it illustrates the role and importance of traditional food to Indigenous communities, and how the communities were and are very dependent upon the natural resources to sustain themselves. The rituals that govern the hunting and gathering of traditional food reveal a very deep relationship with the food source itself, and each food source will have its own Dreaming stories and laws associated with it.

  • White people saying outboard tinnies is not the "traditional way."

But I dont see white people riding horses to work the "traditional way"

  • And yet the white man is blamed for their lack of numbers. FFS!

  • @TheNakedWombat Please read my older post

There have been more extinctions and damages on Australian flora & fauna for the last 200 years compared to what the original Aussies have done in the span of 40,000 yrs prior captain crook's arival.

  • @islandwarrior16 True yet that is no argument to drive the Dugong out of existence.

  • I didnt provide any argument that suggest wiping dugong populations out of existence.

You said "yet the white man is blamed for their lack of numbers"

And I agreed if you take into account the environmental impacts of trawling, dredging, land-reclamation, boat propeller scarring, sewage etc.

  • mitchellsee69 please, get your narrow-minded head out of your racist arse and dont comeback till you're educated enough to have a worthy argument that doesn't lack credibility.

  • @HeavySabre70 i never said anything about them hunting more dugongs, i'm mearly stating that if they are allowed to hunt per tradition of their 'old' ways and that this brings them great 'pride' by attacking defenceless animals then they should hunt per the 'old' ways... without power boats....btw if they only hunted that which they required to survive there would be 0 dugongs killed each year.its probably that they've lost the old ways and are not skilled enough to hunt without white man tools

  • @Eonrads50 Did you see them using rifles or spear guns to hunt the dugong? No. They use spears made from wood and this is what can be classified as traditional. They use small boats and wooden spears. Not big fishing trawlers and huge nets. You are just trying to find faults and things to pick on.

  • @dot2dot67 Balls. Their principals are still the same which is to kill only what they require to eat and no more. Using small aluminum powerboats allows them to find their food faster and then have more time for other life pursuits. Having a power boat does not mean these aboriginals are going to kill more dugong.

  • @islandwarrior16 thats because we invented cars and outboards, they've been our ''traditional'' vehicles for over 100 years, not that I'm saying cars are good I think the're shit, I'd prefer a horse TBH

  • I couldn't careless WTF people want to eat just as long as it's done with conservation of the species in mind (seen guys hunt turtles for the fun of it and leave them on the rocks to die....not even eating them....what a waste!) and it's done HUMANELY.....also see pricks chop up turtles while their alive coz apparently 'the meat taste better' to those stupid C***s.

  • aboriginals used to have power boats?

  • those ass hole do not have those boats back then so they hunted less often dudong
