This video covers the time period of September 2000 through July 2004. The video was shot in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi in the southeastern United States on BNSF's Birmingham and Thayer Subdivisions; CN's Yazoo Subdivision; CSXT's Fitzgerald, S&NA North, and W&A Subdivisions; and Norfolk Southern's Atlanta North, Atlanta South, and GS&F Districts. The SD40-2 could arguably be considered the best locomotive ever built. Hundreds of these venerable, old warriors still ply the rails of all major U.S. railroads today in 2004.
Once the backbone of just about every single Class One locomotive fleet in America, slowly but surely age and the fact that many of these veterans are just plain worn out is taking its toll on the remaining numbers of this stalwart workhorse. There is no sweeter sound than the growl of a trio of these six-axle beasts moving heavy tonnage under full load. Sit down in the engineer's seat as we take a first-hand look at the SD40-2s of various railroads including BNSF, Canadian National, CP Rail, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific!

I actually can't imagine Class One railroads without SD40-2s but that day is coming rather quickly.
