MECHANIZED DISPOSAL OF AUTUMN LEAVES IN BIRMINGHAM, MI

Remember back in the days when after you'd raked the fallen leaves of auumn into a pile, you'd burn them? Do you recall the smell of burning leaves? Did you like it? Since leaf burning is a thing of the past in Birmingham, MI you can dispose of leaves by muching them with a power mower or letting them disintegrate in a compost pile. Or, if you live on a paved street with curbs, you can rake or blow them into the street. The City will then remove them with a giant vacuum, or use a Wheel Loader, like this Case 721C to scrape them up, compact them and then dump them into a trash truck. The final cleanup is usually made with a conventional street sweeper. Those residents who live on an uncurbed street must put their leaves in paper bags which are then dumped into the weekly yard waste pickup vehicle. Since it is Michigan, soon after folks are through getting rid of leaves they have to start shoveling or blowing snow. At least lawn mowing is over for the year. I still haven't found out the name of the scissors that collect and squeeze the leaves.
