Giving to your church may be good - but that isn't how we should be 'giving to God'

  • All I can say is (EVERYBODY) pray about it. God has blessed me so greatly since I tuned my finances over to Him :) A tithe is just a good place to start.

  • Oly - I don't disagree with a voluntary tithe - something offered with a cheerful heart - willingly - amen! What I disagree with is the twisting of scriptures to demand a tithe when a mandatory tithe was never the intent of the New Covenant - it was never part of the Church until the 6th century AD...

  • I think people may be missing the point here. It is important that our gift to the church is not the only way that we give. We shouldn't think that having given 'at the office' we are all done. Good point. But we should give to the church. For those who say that tithing is a 6th Centurty invention of the church then how do you explain the early church and Acts 4 & 5?

  • @christoferL I know right? My friend told me that a single stage light can cost 25K. We were walking past a truck belonging to my school's campus church, and my friend says, "that truck holds a quarter of a million dollars worth of stage equipment."

  • @forest51690 Actually - they were giving to the priesthood... which is important to remember when speaking on tithes... they went / should go to Levitical Priests. Jesus is NOT a Levitical Priest - but in the order of Melchizedek. I feel bad about those missionaries. Maybe if churches weren't funding multi-million dollar concert halls (sanctuaries) housed in multi-media superplexes (churches) the missionaries would be provided for ?

  • @forest51690 continued

I'm not saying give to the church. I'm saying we should give to the ones who need it (Acts 2:45)

I'm not saying give 10%. I'm saying we should be willing to give it all (Mat 19:21)(Luke 14:33) and give any amount to satisfy the needs of the church body.

  • @christoferL

I just thought of this- remember when Jesus saw the widow giving her last two coins to the synagogue? (Luke 21:2) This suggests that it was common for people to give money to the church.

    @blueskunk12

You're right, we don't have to tithe. But we should tithe wherever there is a need. I heard a statistic that says 5% of Christians tithe. Missionary funds are going down, and missionaries are being pulled off the fields for lack of funds.

  • @forest51690

When you (and the Church) use Malachi 3, you try to chain Christians to the OLD Covenant. Paul teaches against this.

    Galatians 5:4

You who are trying to be justified by law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

Saying that we MUST Tithe to be blessed contradicts what Jesus Himself said.

    Matthew 5:45

"He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

We have a NEW Covenant with God.

  • @christoferL

    I agree.

    Psalm 24:1

"The earth is the LORD's and everything in it, the world and all who live in it."

God already owns everything, whether we admit it or not.

    Psalm 50:9-12

"I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it."

  • your so uniformed

  • God has no need for money. You should refrain from cussing on my comments if you want to be taken seriously. Thanks.
