@robatsea2009 Both he and his character both contract cancer, are told they will die in just a few years, face the news head-on, and deal with it by doing everything that defines what kind of man they are.
Almost a poetic parallel to it.

A very good film, John Wayne is great! I like the time it set in also. Not many movies are set at the turn of the century. The background is very historically accurate. Love it!
