Oh yes no doubt it sounds like Donizetti! Very lovely duet!

Has anyone noticed how the opening theme of the duet sounds an awful lot like "alfin son tua" from the Lucia madscene?

Is Joan sitting on a stool? She was a TALL woman...

@fullbuck50 I have watched this clip before, but never noticed the hysterical face. So typical of Joan. I saw her on many occasions rehearsing something and singing like a combination of goddess and angel and then making a face like a naughty schoolgirl. One of her most endearing traits, but she got caught here!

Wonderful. Has anyone noticed or mentioned the wacky face JS makes when she finishes her part at 2:20 - she sort of rolls her eyes, and screws up her forehead, as if commenting on what she just sang. Perhaps she thoughts the camera was already off her? It's very funny, especially after having just made such extraordinary music. Self-deprecating GENIUS.

Elkins is fantastic here and it's interesting to see Sutherland at her absolute prime. Thanks for posting, D!

shes doing well! her birthday is saturday!!!! the big 8-3!!!
What a rare and wonderful gem of a clip; may thanks to whomever posted it. Even though I still think Sutherland and Horne were the greatest female duet ever, Ms Elkins gives Horne a run for her money here. And nobody was better than Joan! Brava!

Joan is perfect. I love Margreta Elkins a lot. She is a very fine singer. Her performance with Joan in Norma in 1979 in Sydney was impressive. And one interesting point, Joan is a tall girl and Elkins is almost as tall as Joan. They make a perfect duo on the stage.
