I have done this fishing for steelhead and larger trout. The thrill is when you get a 5 pounder, on the fish will make runs just below your fins, and you get to do some quick manuevering with your tube as you spin a 180.
This is definitely a thrill with larger fish.

This looks like more fun than you can shake a rod at! Thanks for the fantastic video.
Too many 'gators here in SE Texas to fish this way, but now i want to hop a jet and come fish that lake.

"Oh no I'm mistaken" hahaha I don't know what it is but I find humor in that line! Excellent video, I definitely need to add one of these to my arsenal now!

how much water could i cover in a float tube and how long would it take? theres a lake i plan to float tube in its fairly big but i dont plan to go far.
Is there really such a low risk of being bitten/attacked by big Pike in lakes like that? I would think that swimming in a lake full of large, toothy predators would be a little risky.

@Graceclaw I have to say, if there's any genuine record of a person being attacked by a pike when swimming, I'd certainly like to hear about it. To my knowledge this has never happened, hence the statement that the risk is low, but ignorance is bliss, I suppose!

You deserve a more sophisticated audience! At least the ones that are commenting. Excellent video and great inspiration. Do you use a special "toothy-safe" pike leader?

I appreciate your sensible comment. Alan sometimes uses a Kevlar trace, which is light and fairly flexible. Other times, he doesn't use a trace - in practice, the relatively large lure means a pike's teeth rarely come into contact with the leader.
