In this episode, Byron (BJ) Jackson talks about his Rare Essence days: his producing of the Vinnie D track "55 Dollar Motel", his work with the Doug E Go-Go Remix of "I'm Getting Ready", the Go-Go Live at the Capital Center concert, out of town gigs, and other artists outside of Go-Go that he has worked with.
As far as NY dudes hating......it was all good
They respected the fact that they couldnt just come down
95 and sell their shit in our neighborhoods without getting
"hot balls" as we called them back then. And the NY buns
came down & got their hair did cause DC had plenty style
back in the 80s n 90s. Very distinct style. Where ever you
were you could tell who was from DC. "Temple Taper" is
trademark D.C. shit. Dudes were still wearing fades and
Phillies.

There was no hook on the song $55 Dollar Motel....NONE
That "$55 DOLLAR MOTEL" was not there at all..just a rap.
BJ was responsible for that & smoothing the rough spots in
the change which is the chord progression from "Killing me
softly" by Roberta Flack I was told.
Great moment in history...woulda been magic if those 2
dudes linked up and made music cause they were both
beasts with that music music. Not that bullshit.
I would love to hear anything by either of these dudes today.
