North Korea's leader Kim Jong-il has welcomed South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun as he arrived in Pyongyang for a historic summit.
Live television footage showed the two men shaking hands ahead of three days of talks in the North Korean capital.

The summit between the two leaders is only the second such meeting in more than 50 years since the Korean war.

President Roh said he was aiming for a "peace settlement together with economic development".

The 1950-53 war between the two sides has never formally ended, but Seoul has promoted hopes for a permanent truce.

It says this summit may pave the way for that historic step.

  • Kim Jung-Il promised to vist Seoul after his famous meeting with Kim Dae-Jung in 2000.

    He lied.

  • Well I´m not sure that an reunification would destroy South koreas economy. Yes it could be happen but remenber Germany 19 years ago. Sure, the situation in Korea is diffrent. What I woul say. If the people in both koreas realyy want a reunification it will be possible. I´m from Berlin in former western Germany. I´m happy abaout the reunification in Germany- thing the most other Germans too. Yes reunion is expensive (think all Germans know what I´m talking about...)That the price of freedom.

haha, träumer.... die situation in Korea ist in keinster Weise mit der damals bei uns in DE zu vergleichen...

  • Japan is dead meat once north n south unify

  • @robertw6556 lol

  • @3SRBIJACCCC Evidence?

  • @robertw6556 Come on... S. Korean government is puppet of USA. They must do whatever USA tells them... Pathetic.

  • @3SRBIJACCCC You obvisouly have never lived in South Korea. The US does not control the South Korean government. They can form their own polices.

  • @JesseAronGaron If South swallows North in that reunification, Korea would lost pride, which fights America and its puppets and their imperialism.

  • @robertw6556 Of course. Americans would arrest him or something... He is not fool to visit puppet state controlled by USA, both hating him and DPRK.
