Sammy Davis, Jr., in 1976, was on the Diahann Carroll TV show and in this clip he did some tap dancing and then sang a duet from Porgy and Bess with the beautiful Diahann Carroll. Sammy Davis Jr. is one of the greatest entertainers in the history of show business, being able to sing, dance, act, play instruments and be funny as well. In Arthur Silber's book, Sammy Davis, Jr. Me and My Shadow, he explores the amazing career and inside feelings of a many who only wanted the freedom to pursue his art form. Sammy Davis, Jr. broke many color barriers in Las Vegas and New York City well before the big gains were made in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, something he doesn't get credit for. • Can't answer all your questions. DOT could be short for Diahann, I just don't know about that. I am not sure who's voice if any was used for Dorothy in the movie. I do know that Dorothy had voice problems, as my Father was her agent as well as her sister as well. I do know that Dorothy gave my Dad many problems; drove him nuts at the least. I do know so much but all that was a long time ago and I cant remember it all. Hope this helps you out a little bid anyway. Arthur

  • This was during his satan worshipping days...you can see the longer red fingernail on his left-hand pinky.

  • omgggg her voice!!!! ^_^

  • A great treat to see this...tv was at a different pace back then...no quick jumps and cuts every 2 seconds...great sound quality here...

  • I heard him accidentally call her DOT! I asked (WHO IS DOT??) I believe DOROTHY DANDRIDGE played BESS. I woke up on the couch in the 1980s a stage show revision of PORGY & BESS was on. A heavy set 60ish White Woman was singing I LOVE YOU PORGY like Diann sang here. I was STUNNED by it's beauty. 20 yrs later Dancing Girls from HARLEM 1940s on TV said, One of THE ANDREWS SISTERS was a Great Soul Singer. A great MIME. Said she sang for DANDRIDGE in SHOW BOAT. That must have been her!

  • Bottomless Talent!!!

  • It's great being black and alive. we've been through a lot of Ish and these two people know more, how hard it was and how much harder it's gonna be in the future as we go forward into the unknown. This is a message for all, so don't feel unincluded, enbrace what we can have . Not what we don't. God, Allah, Buddha Bless

  • she is so intelligent and beautiful such an legend.

  • So happy to have found this !! These two fabulous singers managed to wrap up an entire opera in 13 minutes (in the TV style of the 70's) - while Sammy played both Sportin' Life AND Porgy. What enormous beautiful operatic voices they possessed! A pleasure and gift! Thank you so much !!
