History shows us only one thing with regards to gap: gap increases when government intervenes in the economy.

In a free market economy the gap may be large for a few people, but there is a very large middle class created by the rich economy, and it doesn't matter that there are people on top who are much wealthier than the rest, it only means that those people provide the rest of the market with the best quality, lowest priced goods that everybody wants.

1870 to 1913 the USA didn't have any income related taxes, didn't have any business regulations basically. No EPA, FDA, FBI, FDIC, FHA, HUD, etc.etc. all the departments (energy, education, commerce, interior, business, agriculture, transport, etc.), the SS, Medicare, minimum wage, fake money and credit (FED) and on and on, none of it existed and the economy was really growing, real innovation, real money, it's all gone.

I want to propose a new paradigm: Don't tell everyone that economic progress is from the Top-Downs. Now at the Top there is government, and the people (even if they still happen to be rich) are at the bottom. So we Do need more Bottom-Up, not more Top-Down! :-)
