A Seaford man who spray-painted traffic cones with swastikas and left tags on fences, cars and walls Tuesday night still had purple paint on him when he was arrested, police said.
Police said Michael Nielsen spray-painted five orange traffic cones on Ocean Avenue with swastikas using a can of purple paint.
But, Nassau County police said, Nielsen, 30, of 2548 Ocean Ave., was not done there.
As he continued to walk, he spray-painted 17 more traffic cones with other graffiti, then spray-painted a wooden fence, two white vinyl fences, four cars, a stone wall, a mailbox and a brick wall, police said. In all, police said Nielsen caused "in excess of $4,000" in damage.
Using a witness description and video surveillance footage, police said they arrested Nielsen on suspicion of the graffiti damage.
When they arrested him Wednesday afternoon, police said Nielsen still had purple paint on his hands - as well as on his jeans and sneakers.
He has been charged with six counts of third-degree criminal mischief, four counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and one count of first-degree aggravated harassment. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
