Living in LA and working in entertainment industry, I run into gay people all the time. However, all the contacts from modeling business, stylists, dancers notwithstanding, less than 1 percent of my acquaintances are homos. Explain that. Less than 1 in 10.

NATSAL questionnaire`s never had a question about sexual orientation. It did have few questions on sexual behavior, which is not the same. There are people who live heterosexual live but are deeply in love with someone of the same sex, and never act on it, or even speak of it. Also, there obviously are people who won`t tell about their homosexual experience in an interview. The percentage therefore should be higher in reality.

But even so, let`s look at NATSAL 2000 findings:
