The moon was created when a few billion years ago when a meteor the size of mars maybe hit it... possibly while Earth was still forming and it hit on the side, breaking it, that clump of rock that came off and didnt stay in orbit became our moon. This meteor in the simulation is a pretty good view of what would happen.... a few billion years ago we didnt have water or trees, just rock, salt, and maybe some other stuff...
