Private Security Pers training on R5 Assualt Rifle. The R5 assault rifle is, along with the R4, one of the primary assault rifles in use by the military of South Africa.

It is based on the Israeli Galil rifle, which in turn was based on the Finnish Valmet Rk 62, a copy of the Russian AK-47 assault rifle.

The R5 operates in semi-automatic, safety and fully automatic firing modes and fires 5.56x45 mm rounds. It is manufactured by Vektor, a division of Denel Ltd.

  • i dont know anything about this gun does it shoot 7.62mm like an ak?

  • @s10withbass

It is a NATO 5.56mm round.

R5 and R4 are based on the Galil which is based on the AK, so very similar working parts.

  • haaa XD last word is 'befok' = 'fucking cool'

  • @bigphreaking most would. alot of non south africans think its just another gun, but that thing is lekker way better than any other gun i've fired.

  • @mechetter I just want 2 say that, the R4 and galil are the same weapon exept The R4 stock is a bit longer and the front guard is diffrend. Very good weapon.

  • I would do anything to get my hands on this weapon.

  • "It is based on the Israeli Galil rifle, a copy of the Finnish Valmet Rk 62, which in turn was based on the Russian AK-47 assault rifle." would be more correct since the Rk 62 is much more similar to the galil than the AK-47 :)

  • so if this weapon is based off of an ak's design/mechanics, does it still retain all of that rugged functionallity? fire with sand/mud/water getting in the weapon? if so, then this could replace the ak for most folks. also, i saw some program recently where a guy wanted to place an order for ak-47s (about 5-10 of them) but he wanted a gun smith to put internal suppressors in them. needless to say, the guy pulled it off, and it fired like a champ with the modified barrel/suppressor.

  • @mechetter sorry just to correct you but the GALIL is actually based of the finnish AK called RK 62 (rk 95 tp being the newest version) and the 62 is based of ak 47 =)

  • i love that gun

  • south africans manufacture the best rifles ever! go suid afrika

  • i think its better than galil. and i think that the one that u are using the cr21, if i am on the right model. its better than the tavor
