The first part this contest will be the act I duet from L'elisir D'amore. I choose this for all of the obvious reasons, it's just great music! In the hands of world class singers, such as I have provided, this music is just magical. Since this is a duet, there are some overlaps of singers, think of it as a tribute to their art. In the spirit of a providing a variety of singers I am also providing a few clips from the later duet as an added bonus. Once again a score of 1-5 for singing/characterization:
Judith Blegen - Luciano Pavarotti - 1981
Alda Noni - Ferruccio Tagliavini - 1959
Renata Scotto - Carlo Bergonzi - 1967

Bravi! Questo e vero BEL CANTO.

What a marvellous pairing! They both sound in best voice. Scotto is ideally suited to this music, as opposed to the Giocondas and Lady Macbeths she later embarked on.

@iduefoscari : cosa ???? " Only Caruso and Pertile were his equals " ?????? AHAHAHAHAH !!! CIAO !!!

@31122051 I am fascinated to know what you have against Carlo Bergonzi. Were you a who got the sack from" I Due Foscari" in Buseto? Or Is 31122051 your registered number from your mental hospitol ? Between 1958 and 1969 Carlo Bergonzi was as a lyrical tenor and in certain bel-canto roles like Nemorino in a class of his own. All in all if he was not the finest Verdi tenor on disc of the 20th Century only Caruso and Pertile were his equals.

This is my favorite one so far. The only Adina whose "a" vowels aren't sickeningly bright and who can make it through the line without sounding like she's going to pass out.

Hmm, Scotto seems in top form here and is sounding very good (we hear the absolute beauty and fullness of her younger self, no intonation problems at all and no pushing).
I'm not crazy about Bergonzi as Nemorino though... he seems much more at home with middle Verdi.
