@ginnidorka I have stood with them. No such things were advocated. It's all about the size, intrusion, and expense of the government. Starting in 2009 the Federal government started running budget deficits of about $1.6 trillion per year. They are borrowing 40% of the Federal budget year after year and we have nothing to show for it.

Google "deficit graph washington post" if you want to see a bar chart that lays out the problem. "Unprecedented."

@voltamp Tea party is nothing but a bunch of right wing extremists. They are all anti government and walk around with signs saying "dont tread on me". However these are the same people who want the state to adopt christianity as the official state religion, want to make same sex marriage illegal, are against abortion yet offer no prenatal care or child benefit services. As long as these huge evils exits such a movement cannot and should not be respect.

It sounds like you are being spoon fed propaganda. I am not responsible for every obscure event that happens anywhere in the country. Neither are you.

I'm not sure if Leftists can recognize a genuine grass-roots, bottom-up movement when they see one. A spontaneous phenomenon without centralized control just doesn't compute for some people.

@voltamp When this grass roots moment condones and supports 2 teachers who got suspended for spraying their atheist colleague with holy water while she taught a class and demands that the atheist teacher be suspended as well I dont think I want to support such a movement. Also calling on the government to have a national day of prayer while the constitution forbids the state to condone any religious practise is a serious attack on secular America and I take this attack very very seriously.

@ginnidorka Since I did not say that the military alone guarantees freedom, your statement is a non sequitur. Food, water, and air keep you alive. Does saying that food keeps you alive mean that you don't need air and water as well?

Your remarks about the Tea Party are pure smug arrogance and are not based on personal experience. I am a scientist, I am not religious, and I support this grassroots movement called the Tea Party. They are anti big government. Period. Go and look for yourself.

@voltamp Let us take the example of china. They have a strong army but people who dissent against the state are tortured and often killed. Military might alone does not guarantee freedoms. You need secular protesters who challenge the state and let them know what is right and wrong. Tea party does not fall in this category because they are a bunch of homo bashing, science hating sorry human specimens. You can also thank scientists whose advancements protects the soldiers.
