Doom RPG - ZDoom Project!

Footage of a project I've been working on on-and-off for a few months that uses ZDoom's scripting features to create an RPG-like gameplay setting within Doom, a game normally known for its simple (even if fun) gameplay and relatively small, mostly indoor maps. This project, different from my previous "RPG" example, has a temporary title of "Doom RPG" and aims to thrust the player into a large, open world teeming with military installations, caverns, ancient ruins, dangerous forests, and even lakes in which the player can swim. A dynamic day-to-night cycle is also a key feature in replicating the RPG setting and puts emphasis on a world that is now living, breathing, and changing with every second. In broad daylight, all can be seen. When the sun is down and the land is covered in darkness, torches and lamps can be used to great effect to mark key landmarks and guide the player along his journey into the unknown.

At this time, as noted at the beginning of the video, the gameplay seen in this video is a mere demonstration of the potential a custom RPG environment has in the world of Doom. The layout and quests you see in this video will likely have been changed in some way(s) if this project is completed and made available to the public. Also, more elements such as item shops, villages and its people to greet, and caverns and dungeons to explore, will be mandatory given the subject matter but are not yet present in the current build.

I would also like to note that although we've encountered testing difficulties with our "Nazi Zombies" Doom project, it has not been scrapped to make way for this one. Much like this one, "Nazi Zombies" will be a constant work-in-progress until it is polished, finalized, and released to the public at which point I'll create a video announcing just that.

Doom is still my fav game. WTF happened to games like this. Today they all suck. Doom 4 is my last hope in reviving this style of fps

@xxZOMBIEincxx If id Software didn't completely suck today, I too would have faith in Doom 4. Unfortunately, Doom 3, Quake 4, Rage, and other titles they've developed or published have all but destroyed that faith.

@Masterlink981 I unfortunately don't have faith in id Software anymore, man. Without John Romero, American McGee, Tom Hall, and Sandy Petersen creating the levels and Adrian Carmack whipping up the art, it's just not id Software to me. I sure hope Doom 4 turns out to be good, but without the old crew I'm afraid id Software is "just another game developer." Carmack and Cloud are really the only guys left.

@Chubzdoomer i wouldnt give up hope just yet. they seem pretty sincere when they say that Doom 4 will go back to the classic doom style of gameplay.
