Matt covers a Billy Bragg & Wilco version of a Woody Guthrie lost classic. Woody did not write shaped notes and when he died many of his unrecorded melodies died with him. BB & W were asked to look thru archives and put music to the lyrics of some of these lost classics. Check out the results on their Mermaid Avenue cd.

  • What are you, a music cop?

Shut up and enjoy the tune.

  • Technically he did say it, it just depends on how you interpreted it.

  • same!!

  • My understanding of the word 're-create', is trying to play the song as close as possible to the style of the original. I think it's a great version.

  • hes just covering the song at a concert, its not like hes going to record it. I would of been stoked if i was there, its a great song

  • I dont think he meant "re-creating" it as in a reinvention of the song. More as in redoing what BB & W had done

  • Marry me Matt!

  • What a talent Matt is. I wasn't alive for many of the great folk singers of the ages, but having a chance to see Matt grow and develop as this new generation of folk singers is just a pleasure.

  • I love matt! this cover's great

  • acceptable cover
