I am providing a link to the Calendar of Protests (U.S and Canada) against the Gaza Attacks http://www.endtheoccupation.org/article.php?id=1773

Also, a powerful piece, If Hamas did not exist , from http://www.counterpunch.org/loewenstein01012009.html

Obama stated in his speech more perfect union that -a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam.

Obamas comment about Israel and his implied belief about the root cause of the conflicts in the Middle East is ironic, because it is actually divisive.
The following words are cited from here: http://www.zmag.org/zspace/commentaries/3727

Hamas should be condomned for firing rockets at Israel, but that does not give Israel the right to punish the entire population for those actions. Such vengeance is the very essence of "collective punishment" and is therefore unequivocally prohibited by the Geneva conventions.

Israeli violation involves targeting civilians. This violation involves three aspects. First, Israel claims the airstrikes were targeted directly at "Hamas-controlled" security-related institutions.., virtually all the police departments and other security-related sites were hit. Those police and security agencies are civilian targets -- not military. They are run by the Hamas-led government in Gaza, an institution completely separate from Gaza's military wing that has carried out some (though by no means the majority) of the rocket attacks

Certainly targeting police stations (even Israel did not claim Gazan police forces were responsible for the rockets) and television broadcast centers do not qualify as self-defense.

The current round of airstrikes have been carried out largely with F-16 bombers and Apache attack helicopters, both provided to Israel through U.S. military aid grants of about $3 billion in U.S. taxpayer money sent to Israel every year. Between 2001 and 2006, Washington transferred to Israel more than $200 million worth of spare parts for its fleet of F-16's. Just last year, the U.S. signed a $1.3 billion contract with the Raytheon corporation to provide Israel with thousands of TOW, Hellfire, and "bunker buster" missiles. In short, Israel's lethal attack today on the Gaza Strip could not have happened without the active military support of the United States.

* Since 2001, fewer than twenty Israelis have been killed by Qassam rockets. In three days, nearly 400 Gazans have been killed by Israeli state violence. This is a ratio of 20 Gazan lives for each Israeli life, with the death toll in Gaza certain to increase.
Four Israelis, including a soldier, were killed and eight wounded. Palestinian health officials put the three-day death toll in Gaza at 364; the U.N. said the total included at least 62 civilians.
The establishment and expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have been described as "having no legal validity" by the UN Security Council in resolutions 446, 452, 465 and 471

The European Union considers the settlements to be illegal, and an April 21, 1978 opinion of the Legal Adviser of the Department of State concluded that "[w]hile Israel may undertake, in the occupied territories, actions necessary to meet its military needs and to provide for orderly government during the occupation, for the reasons indicated above the establishment of the civilian settlements in those territories is inconsistent with international law."

The UN and the entire international community, except Israel, are united in this view, which was confirmed by the international court of justice in 2004, when it ruled that the Israeli separation wall is illegal where it passes through the Palestinian territories precisely because they are illegally occupied.
Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are deemed illegal under international law. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7082629.stm

  • interesting watch. but the UN isn't that great. There is a lot of tension with Israel\Palestine land rights. Israel is about 8 000 square miles. Would fit into Florida 8 times so dividing it up would be very difficult for inhabitants. Anyone who targets civilians is wrong and anyone who uses civilians as shields are wrong. I have many friends Israeli and Palestinian and much of the issues at hand are from political and religious terrorism. If you don't throw a rock you wont get one back.

  • @squadge

so complicated!! Not. All Israel needs to do is to stop building illegal settelemnts and stop stealing. duh.

  • The entire Israel-Palestine subject is difficult for your typical uneducated American to understand because it requires research that goes 100 years back for someone to properly understand what is going on. Bush apparently believed in how dumb Americans are and he was right, so he got away with labeling Osama as a terrorist and making Americans hate Islam.

  • I am Canadian. I don't think its difficult for anyone to understand, some people just want to be stay ignorant so they can be prejudicial

  • you are the best thanks

  • Honestly, the Muslim Ummah needs to take responsibility for their brothers and sisters getting innocently killed and act to stop this. Our religion has taught us to never stand by when injustice is being done, especially to your brother or sister.

It really does annoy me, because were so helpless and arrogant to the greatest test and challenge our Muslim Ummah has to face.

  • Isreal just has much better aim then Hamas!!!!! lol

  • its a bigger picture, ZIONISM, or satanism, dont be confused with jews, they arent their government. And of course its genocide. bill gates is doing it under the guise of philanthropy, the US does it under the guise of peace and safety, the FDA does it under the guise of food safety, the U.N. does it under the guise of aid. it could be defeated easy, if you could just get people to realize this is more important than lady gaga and obama's black berry. Thanks for caring.(rare today). bless you.
